Special Parking Directions: Detroit Grand Prix Weekend (May 29–31, 2026)
Our regular recommended garage (LAZ at 130 Atwater St) will be closed during the Grand Prix, as are the normal roads to get to the boat. Please follow the special directions below for this weekend only.
Parking Directions — Grand Prix Weekend
Google Map to Washington Street Garage (Huntington Center)
We recommend you click the link above — it will get you to Huntington Center at the Washington Street Garage.
Make sure your map is bringing you into the city via the Lodge Freeway (M-10 South). You can get to M-10 from any of the freeways: I-94, I-75, or I-96.
At the very end of the directions it may say that the road is closed, and there is also a road closed sign. You can ignore the sign — the actual road closure is just past the entrance to the garage.
Driving Summary
Coming into the city on M-10 South:
We recommend taking Exit 1B as you get to downtown — it will be the last exit before the freeway is closed. Once on the exit, move to the right-hand lane as you will be turning right as soon as you emerge from underneath the tunnel on Washington Blvd. Immediately after turning right, you will turn right again into the garage. The garage accepts credit cards only.
After You Park — Walking to the Boat
When you enter the garage, you will see elevators to your right. Walk back to these elevators or take the stairs up to the main level, labelled “Main Corridor *2” on the elevator buttons.
Once out of the elevator, turn right to head toward the river. Do not exit the building. Continue inside about 300 yards, where you will go down a large set of escalators to the riverfront exit. Once out of the building, you will see the boat directly to your left.
Important: These same doors close at 10:00 PM. Make sure you are back inside before 10:00 PM when leaving for the day.
If the Washington Street Garage Is Full
If that garage is full — which we do not anticipate — there is additional parking right beside Huntington Center on W. Congress St. Park there, then enter Huntington Center to walk toward the river.

If on the roof, park all the way to the rear of where you entered the roof at Elevator door #3. Take the elevator down to floor #1.
